Upgrading Drupal
I recently attempted an upgrade of a Drupal installation from 4.5.2 to 4.6.5
Firat I went from 4.5.2 to 4.6.0 and this appeared to be successful. Likewise the move to 4.6.2 and 4.6.3. However somewhere in 4.6.4 and 4.6.5 it screwed up something and I ended up not being able to see any blocks on the side bar. The data was all still there but I couldnt access anything. I ended up dumping the database and starting from scratch. It was painful but necessary.
Then I get two emails about Drupal security vulnerabilities and telling me to upgrade to 4.6.6.
I don't think so.
I love Drupal. It is an awesome content management system, and great for creating websites. I will eventually convert SpyJournal to a Drupal site.
However the upgrade system is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. Just read the Drupal forums!
In my opinion, until they make it a requirement that non core modules are upgradeable with the core system and that if they don't they remain in CVS, this will continue to be an issue with a lot of web developers.
In the meantime I have all my Drupal installations on a mix of 4.5.2, 4.6.3, 4.6.5 and one at 4.7.0. And no plans to change!
