Drupal Upgrading Issues

We have been steadily upgrading all our Drupal websites - (ours and clients) in the last 2 weeks.

The process has been slow for numerous reasons. First I have had to do paying work at the same time and second each site needs to be done twice - we have created a test server that mirrors as closely as possible the live server. On this test server we upload a backup of the live site, test it, perform the upgrade and test again. Then once we are happy we push the live site into maintenance mode, upgrade it and test it before going back online again.

We had Drupal websites in 4.5.2, 4.6.3, 4.7.4, 4.7.5, 4.7.6 and 5.2.0 versions.

Drupal website upgrades

I am busy upgrading all our websites. both our company and personal ones and all our customers sites. there have been a number of security issues on the web lately with both Drupal and IE. See this story about Badware on Ethans blog - this is similar as to what happened to this site about a week after I launched it.

Fortunately I found the problem almost immediately and was able to delete the hacked scripts. However they kept coming back and I couldn't figure out how. I changed the administrator password and that stopped them. Then I upgraded the site and the problem has now gone away.

Test Post from Windows Live Writer

I'm playing with the Windows Live Beta toys at the moment

Specifically the Photo Gallery and the Live Writer as means of creating a richer blogging experience for myself and also for clients.

The setup was very simple and pain free. If this works ( and I think it will) then Windows Live plays nicely with Drupal.

Brittany.com on Drupal


Dries Buytaert, the creator of Drupal just posted an article stating that Brittany spears new website was built in Drupal. I flicked over to http://www.britney.com to see and have posted a screen shot of what I found - check out the Google Adsense ads!
