Andrew from Freeth Carthwright wrote an article back in 2006 about email footers. It was published on IMPACT their Intellectual Property and Information Law blog. The information however is not dated and is still pertinent today.

Here are some points he makes:

Email can:

  • Leave a permanent record
  • Carry attachments, including computer viruses
  • Be tracked and monitored more closely than telephone conversations
  • Encourage the use of slang and jargon and carry different dangers of misinterpretation.

He goes on to suggest the types of things you should consider in an email footer and follows up with a sample. Being lawyers the sample is very verbose. However I am sure you can copy and paste appropriate phrases from it as needed.
