MS Office 2010, social media and photography news

Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010 There are some nice new things to get used to in Office 2010. I’m loving and hating Outlook. The conversations are great and painful at the same time.

Thank goodness for Xobni or I think I would go mad trying to find some emails.

I do have two exchange accounts running in Outlook, hence the reason I had to go to the Beta. The good news is the RTM version is now only 2 months away.

I’m running 32bit Office 2010 at the moment. Here are some articles about the differences between 32bit and 64bit.

Personal news and Photography

Our family fitness has taken another leap forward this last week with our joining in a virtual race across Australia. For us its more of an amble than a race and we are not in it to win it, but for the fitness.

Jadeen and Erin and Mercedes also received their first mentions for running on the web – though Jadeen was published in the news paper for her running a few weeks back.

garmin310 I bought a Garmin 310XT training computer watch gizmo and Jude and I have been using this to track our heart rate, speed and distance, and cadence for running and cycling. Here’s the list of our activities on Garmin Connect – you can see the maps, distances and all the details by opening up any of the specific activities. You can even use the player feature to overlay the different metrics and see them play out over the whole course. See the SheepStation Creek course I did on Sunday with Mick.

Photography stuff

After reading this article about 7 ways to get your photos seen, I created a book of photos at Blurb. It is coming soon. You can preview and purchase the book here if you are interested – it makes a great coffee table book.

I have published more photos in our Dreamcoat Photography family portraits section on Flickr. We are in the process of developing our new website for this and are now taking bookings for clients.

Swearing an Oath

Finally, I have sworn an oath this week after following the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd’s lead. We have both made this oath and encourage other men to do the same.

I swear:
never to commit violence against women,
never to excuse violence against women, and
never to remain silent about violence against women.
This is my oath.

Riding the Fat Possum

I love saying that – and I love riding it. My Gary Fisher Fat Possum (aptly named Mans Best Friend) 2009-11-14 Bicycle 008 successfully carried me through today's challenge – 13kms of very steep technical riding through a national park. With mixtures of very fast downhill and lots of big long jumps, to tight technical hair raising switch back descent of a cliff – dropping vertically 400 metres in about 5 minutes straight, to technical singletrail with lots of boulders, fallen logs, roots and twists and turns including several creek crossings and loose rocks, this track was a beauty. We elected to do the downhill direction and have a support vehicle drop us off  and collect us at the bottom. Very wise choice for even the downhill had us exhausted from the constant steering changes and technical riding skills required.

The boys managed to tape my phone camera to my chest (thanks be to duct tape!) and I got these two short videos of the steep descent section. I missed the first third of the descent due to technical difficulties (bumped the off button!). I rode with Michael and Peter and Kitty was the support driver today.

The week in review

I don’t know why I seem to write massive link posts lately – maybe because i have been very busy with my three major priorities, family, work and photography. However this is a priority as well, so I need to allocate some time to write soon. In the mean time I am going to clear my browser of the tabs that are open there.

2009-11-06 BTUB 123 Here goes – and have a great weekend. Oh – and this photo was my favourite of the week. I took it in low light, no flash using the 70-200 2.8 IS L Lens.
