Real Live Preacher Maintenance Gig

I have just been asked by Gordon from Real Live Preacher to handle all the technical maintenance and management of his website. Seeing as his site is getting over 3000 unique hits a day that's a responsible job! I have been talking this possibility over with him for several weeks now and am very pleased he has come to us. We plan to do an excellent job - of course. Hi Gordon :)

rlp will announce the news officially on his site tomorrow, though he gave a teaser today.

The funniest thing was that within hours of his emailing me (while I was asleep) the site broke, so my first email of the day was his acceptance and 2 emails up was his cry for help! With the help of my techie Rohan, we solved that one quick smart and are now planning the major job of upgrading his site to the most recent version of drupal.

What do I do?

I am always being asked what do I do?

It's complicated.

You can read about some of it on our company website where I explain our Drupal Development and hosting

What did I do today?

I did a large number of things today and ticked off all these things from my to do list:

  • Finished GST returns for 3 companies and paid GST
  • Billed a client for annual email services
  • Followed up on a job that is being worked on by Bob
  • Sent an email to contracting agencies looking for some contracting work
  • Successfully downloaded and installed tinymce for this drupal 5.x website in preparation for needing it for a new client - downloaded for research some video content modules for same potential client
  • Researched and installed Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 side by side with my 2.0 installation on our SBS2003 server for our intranet. Troubleshot problems and resolved. Blogged the process. Next task here is to slowly migrate what we are doing on the 2.0 intranet to the 3.0 version.

Insurance Fun and Games

Its all fun and games with insurance here.

In the last couple of weeks we have had 3 separate insurance issues to deal with.

First, we had a computer breakdown. We have a policy that covers this specifically, so we had emergency repairs to do and then wait for the cheque to come. that took 3 weeks and we were out of pocket $3500 while we were waiting.

Then we had the car that we had sold but not swapped over (short by two days) hit by hail and a lot of damage to panels. The car yard no longer wants to give us our agreed trade price and the insurers assessor has assessed the damage as repairs only. However there is a secondary cost and that is to the market value of the vehicle. The car yard have declared even if it is repaired they wont give us the same price, and without repairs the trade in is way less than what the insurance would pay out. I am in "negotiations" with the insurance company to honour their commitment to repair to original market value.
