Meebo - IM in a browser
Meebo is a fantastic application! Simply open a browser to www.meebo.com and if you want sign in for all your saved instant messaging (IM) accounts or just open them from the front page. All your IM clients can be opened in here.
I have been using Trillian for over a year now as my IM client containing my MSN, Yahoo and ICQ clients. However Trillian is an app so it needs to be downloaded and installed and it uses ports that are generally locked by IT administrators, so if you are behind a corporate firewall with restrictions on what you can install then this is no good. I have been using the gmail chat feature to bypass this but this is only any good with other gmail account users.
Meebo is my new answer. I am now reconnected with all my IM contacts from behind corporate firewalls at clients premises.
Here is a great review of Meebo by Miguel's tip of the day blog
Meebo is an AJAX-heavy, Web-based app that currently supports the top six instant messaging clients—it's a bit like the ever-popular Trillian software but without all the pesky downloading, meaning that you can access your chats on any PC with a compatible Web browser (the app works with both IE and Firefox—Opera users are currently out of luck). Logging in to Meebo, users are prompted to enter their username and password for either AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ, or Jabber. A seventh option is the creation of a free Meebo account, allowing users to sign in to any combination of those six services simultaneously.
