Excel function of the week INT

I am combining the function of the week with a request I had to write some VBA code to use it. (Note the VBA function is not always the same as the application function).

CBR001292_LoRes Here is the question I was asked:

I have two columns - One "AA" and the other "AB"
I want to fill down the column AB based on the results in "AA" but I'm
confused about how to get the individual data from AA2 into AB2 - for
example...
Dim AAcell As Range
Dim ABcell As Range
For Each AAcell In Range("AA:AA")
If IsEmpty(AAcell) Then
    ABcell.Value = ""
Else
    ABcell.Value = Int(AAcell.Value)
End Sub
I'm sure this isnt' right/correct - as it isn't working - LOL - but I'm not
sure how to put it...

Reading this through I understood that the reader wanted to be able to fill a column based on another column. If the first column had a blank cell he wanted that repeated in the new column. All other entries in the new column were to be the INTEGER of the number in the first column. I have provided the code used to make this work at the end of this article. Click Read More to continue.

Personal Update

The last 72 hours have been very intense. My body rhythm is a bit our of whack as a result.

Last week I was working 9:30 or 10:00 AM starts through to around 6PM, breaking for dinner, family, sport, time with Jude, and then recommencing work around 10 or 11PM and working through to 3 or 4 AM before going to bed. This cycle works best for me and my clients both local and international.

However Friday night I worked right though and then went to a clients Saturday all day. By 6PM Saturday night I was cactus and snoozed while babysitting the 3 youngest who had a movie marathon while Jude was out with Miranda at a fancy schmancy ladies thing. When she returned around 9:30 I was half snoozing in the kids bedroom while they were going to sleep. Of course that failed miserably once they heard the door open and their mother come home! Being awake I went back to work until Jude stopped me around 2AM and said “go to bed” in that

This weeks web round up

Time to close some tabs. Here are all the good things found since the last round up.

I completely redesigned the front end of www.rasita.biz using panels and views. What do you think? Judith is now selling reptiles as well as her cooking eCourses.

Sarah Perez posted this on live mesh wallpapers. We got them!

Are you Mesh-obsessed? Well now you can show off your devotion to the new service by displaying the Mesh logo on your computer’s desktop. You can grab the zip file for yourself from here.

Sarah also has a Q&A session on Microsoft Office Web Applications.

Microsoft Photosynth

What is Photosynth:

Photosynth03 Photosynth automatically stitches together your digital photographs to create a three-dimensional image.
It’s sort of like a still movie, perhaps. It’s just one object or location captured, but rather than being limited to capturing it in one photograph, you can take many photographs and capture the whole thing in detailed photos, and then they’re stitched together by Photosynth and you are then able to experience your photos in a very creative and fascinating way. You are able to move around, as if you were turning your head to see more of what’s around you, and zoom in as if you were moving closer towards something. It’s difficult to explain, so I would highly recommend you view some Synths created by others already. I have included some incredible Synths in this article below.

A wonderful thing about Photosynth is that you can download and install it for free. All you need is your Windows Live ID and you’re good to go.

How to use it:

What is your reason/motivation for blogging?

I have a number of very different blogs and each have different reasons for their existence.  My primary blog is my personal one, which is where I put up things that I find interesting and fun that I want to share with people.  Then I have the GirlyGeekdom blog which is a group one.  This is focused on all things girly and geeky.  The others are directly related to the Girl Geek Dinners and are the simplest and most efficient way to manage and distribute information to the Girl Geek networks.

Overall my reasons for blogging are to distribute information and knowledge, to share experience and to influence change.

Help me name my new computer

So I need inspiration. I name all the Ps and servers in this place.

We have servers

  • MAGE - SBS2003
  • APPRENTICE - Server2003
  • WAITER - Server2008
  • WONDERLAND – Windows Home Server
  • PORTCULLIS – Linux Server

Desktops

  • CHEETAH (my current machine)
  • FLAMENCO
  • DRAGON (died and gone to parts bin – to be replaced with MOONBEAM)
  • SNAKE
  • JADESTAR
  • DOLPHN
  • BARBIE

Media Center PC

  • LIBRARY

Laptops

  • SERENITY
  • MUSHROOM

The only unimaginative names are the 4 virtual machines we use for remote access and development.

So I need a new name for the PC that is to replace CHEETAH.

My thinking so far includes:

Excel function of the week - FIND and SEARCH

This week we will look at some text functions. FIND and SEARCH are essentially the same function with only minor differences.

magnifying-glass-778751

These functions both allow you to search through a text string (think sentence or word or phrase) in a cell and return the number of the starting character. So when cell A1 has The quick brown fox, =FIND(“fox”,A1) would return 17.

The following screenshots indicate the function arguments and explain the functions syntax.
