More free stuff - 3 days training

Wow! I just received a voucher for 3 days training to the value of $1950 with a local Microsoft Training provider - picked out of the barrel from the last free training event I went to.

I think I will probably goto a MOSS Boot Camp.

I am excited!

  3. Say "Run" when asked "Do you want to trust the signed applet?"
  4. Disable popup blockers to allow launching websites.

Try it out!

Apple Mac OS X Leopard

I thought I would see what all the fuss about Apples New OS X Leopard system is. Not much really.

I watched the guided tour and I was quite impressed by the shiny monitor, minimalist keyboard and mouse and the bloke doing the presentation. None of the features were original or new (from a PC perspective) with possibly the only exception being the ability to change video backgrounds in your chat window (though only with some one else who has Leopard as well.)

Ergo - update

Following my trial of Ergo and reporting the Office 2007 problem, I recevied an email from Martyn James the Senior Software Engineer at Ergo explaining that the issue I was having with office is a known problem with Beta 1, Beta 2 is due out before Christmas which has this issue fixed.

Ergo - Sexy web 2.0 Search for Vista

Ergo is a very sexy search interface. Think smoothly flying out folders (reminsicent of an old CD juke box flipping the CDs (I was an 80s teen!) and nice mind mapping techniques for organising related search results.

It links into Vista's existing indexed folders and searches them and redisplays the results in a very cool connected way - far more intuitive than Vista's built in search. Only problem was I couldn't open any Office 2007 document that it found. Weird. I have registered my problem with them and hope they can fix it or tell me what I am doing wrong.

Free Christmas Presents

Day before yesterday we got $750 of free christmas presents. Could have been over $1000 but I chose not too. How do you ask?

For the aussie readers only, I went to a Strathfield Mobile phone shop and contracted my wife's existing phone account for 24 months to the same price plan she was already on - with better options-got her a new handset, the Nokia 6300 for free, and then spent the $300 of free store credit on various Christmas presents. Not describing them here due to some of the readers of this blog going to be receiving them!

I also upgraded my phone to a Nokia N81, but as this was a more expensive handset I didn't qualify for the free $300 of store credit. The phone was free and just meant resigning my existing account on the same plan for another 24 months. Not like I was going to change it anyway!

Random information - creek surfing and flies

Yesterday I went down to the local bakery for some fresh bread for lunch. On the way there I was fantasizing and salivating about the potential choices of cheese encrusted buns, rolls, twists etc that I might choose. However when I got there the counter cabinets displaying all the pies and rolls, cream buns and tarts and slices etc had several flies flying around in them and crawling on the food. I quickly switched my attention to the loaves of bread up the back shelves behind the counter that appeared to be fly free and went home with 2 sliced multi-grain loaves encrusted with sesame seeds instead.
