We are running SBS2008 which works very nicely. We found that there is a dearth of how to’s out there on the web in relation to a number of specific configuration issues we came across but we seem to have solved most of them now. We did use Philip’s excellent SBS 2008 setup list as a starting point. We also found lots of good helpful stuff on his website. we were both doing similar migrations from SBS 2003. In our case we didn't use any migration tools but manually moved data and mail. I actually copied every users mail out of exchange into a PST file, and then re-imported them into the new box from the PST file. The main reason for this was to avoid bringing over corrupted profiles and other bits and pieces from the old server. The value of this paying off already with quick profile load times and no errors.

Here are some useful SBS2008 articles from Philip:

Excel Tools and News from the web

I have had a bunch of pretty cool Excel things to post up – and finally got around to clearing my flagged items and browser windows.

Conditional Formatting

excel 2007I have written a couple of articles on Conditional formatting in Excel 2007 with lots of readers comments and requests for help. They are the two most read articles on this site.

I was very interested then to come across this article on Joseph’s site by Amit Velingkar where he shows you how to change the automatic colour ranges that are used in Excel 2007 for conditional formatting. He even includes some VBA code for this.

Has Word 2007 stopped displaying pictures?

Mine did. Today. Very frustrating as was trying to produce quotes.

word After looking into templates, trying to replace images with another image, trying a second pc with the same problem, and then when i tried a third pc with the same document but a different user and it was fine, I started to panic my profile was screwed up in some way.
I Googled it and found this page on the first hit.

The answer was very simply:

Click the Office orb on LH side and then in the main main drop-down click Word Options at the bottom.
Click the Advanced Tab
Under the Show Document Content section untick the "Show picture placeholders (tickbox)

Fixed – whew!
