Excel 2007 Tips

Of course the right click on the sheet tab navigation buttons will work in older versions of Excel and is a great way of navigating rapidly through large workbooks. Navipane provides a great alternative that is not as limited as Excels built in display of available sheet tabs.
Excel 2007 has some very advanced and easy to use conditional formatting and Jean explains one very well. However please be very careful with using this feature in any Excel 2007 workbooks that need to be viewed or edited on a Excel 2003 or lower machine. The conditional formatting in 2007 inst backward compatible. In fact it is quite different in both how it works and how it displays to previous versions of Excel.

Soft and Furry
Wed, 07/11/2007 - 11:46am — jethroI haven't bothered shaving for about 10 days now. Up until about 2 days ago the kids thought it was prickly. Last night they were rubbing the beard and saying how soft it was but Jude wants it gone, and I have to go see clients later this week so I guess it will go.
Drupal Upgrading Issues
Tue, 06/11/2007 - 10:50am — jethroWe have been steadily upgrading all our Drupal websites - (ours and clients) in the last 2 weeks.
The process has been slow for numerous reasons. First I have had to do paying work at the same time and second each site needs to be done twice - we have created a test server that mirrors as closely as possible the live server. On this test server we upload a backup of the live site, test it, perform the upgrade and test again. Then once we are happy we push the live site into maintenance mode, upgrade it and test it before going back online again.
We had Drupal websites in 4.5.2, 4.6.3, 4.7.4, 4.7.5, 4.7.6 and 5.2.0 versions.
Funny Mercedes

Mercedes can be so funny. There was a toy box and play area for the kids in the showroom. (Parent friendly - TICK). Mercedes found a little duck mouth on an elastic string that you could put round your head and pretend to be a duck. She came into the office we were in and sat on our knees and made faces while I snapped a couple of quick pictures with the phone camera.

Now this wesbite, http://disposablewebpage.com/getwebpage provides a service for disposable webpages. The process involves making a proper webpage using the rich text editor that also supports tables, images and Flash movies and then set the time when you want that web page to expire.

Maxim Institute releases report about fathering

The Maxim Institute just released a new research report, Going Further With Fathers: Can fathers make unique contributions to the lives of their children? The report, primarily comprised of a literature review, found that if a father is actively involved in the lives of his children, he can help improve their outcomes in a range of areas, including their educational achievement, psychological well-being and their pro-social behaviour. Crucially, fathers have to go beyond being merely present to positively affect their children.
The ways in which fathers can benefit their children include pathways such as their childcare; being close to, and supportive of, them; and by playing with their children in sensitive and challenging ways.
Drupal website upgrades
Fri, 02/11/2007 - 11:33am — jethroI am busy upgrading all our websites. both our company and personal ones and all our customers sites. there have been a number of security issues on the web lately with both Drupal and IE. See this story about Badware on Ethans blog - this is similar as to what happened to this site about a week after I launched it.
Fortunately I found the problem almost immediately and was able to delete the hacked scripts. However they kept coming back and I couldn't figure out how. I changed the administrator password and that stopped them. Then I upgraded the site and the problem has now gone away.
