Lazy Saturday

I can't remember the last Saturday I didn't work. Today I have barely touched a computer. Other than checking email once and playing one game of Texas hold 'em poker (while having an afternoon nap) and blogging this that is!

I am just sitting at the table in the dining room watching the kids play outside. It has been raining and they are playing on the back patio, pouring water on each others heads, sliding on the slick concrete and joyously enjoying life.

As I lazily sipped on water, and typed on the wirelessly connected laptop there was the distant sound of thunder, the laughter of the kids, the music playing from the media room and the sound of the rain on the patio roof. Now Jude is home I am anticipating the smell of ribs cooking to soon be filling the living area.

Out on the patio the kids plants, lettuces and tomatoes and some flowers, have all been watered enthusiastically by the junior gardeners with their watering cans.

How Honey the Remote Executive Assistant changed Jacobs life

A Remote Executive Assistant, is an intelligent graduate that operates from a Knowledge centre in India that completes any work you send for them. You send instructions to your assistant at the end of your working day, these are processed when you are asleep. When you wake up you find all the work completed and in your inbox. Your assistant can handle all the back office work, spreadsheet analysis, Power Point presentations, and more. What a time saver!

There is a hilarous account of how AJ Jacobs, an editor for Esquire magazine, outsourced his life to the extreme. He even tried arguing with his wife remotely! I laughed out loud at his tale of how Honey, Asha, Sunder, Vivek and Mr. Naveen processed the tasks he assigned to them. Make sure you read the whole three pages.

Filehippo Update Checker

The Update Checker is just that, it checks if you need an update and gets them ready for you to download. The Update Checker scans your computer for installed software, checks the versions and then send this information to filehippo.com to see if there are any newer releases. Any new releases are then neatly displayed in your browser for you to download.

The Update Checker works on any Windows PC running Vista, XP, 2003, 2000 or 98 and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

The Update Checker doesn't send any personal information back to filehippo.com. It only collects a list of programs, their versions and the operating system details. Additionally none of this is linked
to your IP address and the logs are deleted after processing.

Why I would vote Liberal over Labour

The Australian Federal Election looms tomorrow. There has been lots of interesting political action leading up to this election in recent months. Most of it however is a "pull the wool over the eyes" of the ignorant voting population, most of whom don't read (to understand) and don't realise the deep down implications of voting for one party over another.

The Evangelical Alliance website has some very well thought out and written articles about all different aspects of the coming election and politics in general.

Bellydancing

Took a fun break from my computer yesterday for 15 minutes or so. The girls have been learning belly dancing at Girls Brigade, and of course Jude has learnt it before, so the girls strapped on the jangly stuff and did a dance. I got my Egyptian drum out and provided the beats while the girls went through their shimmying and shaking. Great stuff!

Getting Things Done GTD

Steve Richards wrote a good post about getting projects completed, taking the Getting Things Done concept a little deeper.

I think I shall do this for the current software development project I am stalled on! I need to finish it!
