My motivation for blogging is to educate myself and others. When I come across a topic that piques my interest I delve further and turn it into a blog post. If it’s something that interests me amongst the hundreds of feeds I read daily, then it’s likely to interest others too. I blog to share ideas and hopefully put a different perspective out there in the blogosphere.
On Fresh Chat, which is Network Communications’ blog, I mostly contribute posts on social networks and communities, but also anything of interest in the wide world of web 2.0
I don’t limit myself to a particular style, if I need to write more to do a topic justice then I will, but I tend to think that most people have a shorter attention span online, so it’s best to keep posts shorter. I write sporadically, I don’t like to stick to a blogging schedule as then it feels as though you have to write something and then it may not be as interesting a read. I do plan on blogging more regularly this year.
I’ve had a personal Live Journal for several years, so at first blogging was cathartic for me. A way to share the ups and downs in my life and to participate with a community of friends. I’m not just a geek girl blogger, I’m a geek girl in general and am registered on so many social networks, online communities and other social media applications that I can barely keep track of them. When I started at Network Communications in 2008 I was also given the opportunity to blog for Fresh Chat. I have found that I really enjoy blogging, and the idea that anyone can blog. I also like the challenge of creating interesting content that people want to see.
