Sheer self-indulgence. I find I'm far more disciplined about writing when I know there is the potential for immediate feedback. I also want to make people laugh.
I enjoy writing opinion and comedy pieces, as well as travel and adventure stories. I also regularly document experiences I have through my work as a journalist, as well as my non-paid passions - acting and improvisation. Given my nickname though, stories of my clumsiness or incompetence (often in relation to those themes listed above) are a regular feature.
In blogging, as in life, I tend to be overly verbose. I post, on average, three times a week. I often include photographs and videos - generally of my own creation - that relate to adventures I've had in the work/travel/creative fields.
"The Bruising Adventures of Girl Clumsy" began in August 2004 as a travel blog. I maintained it on my return, but would go weeks without writing because I wanted to keep it more of an "event" blog, rather than a tedious diary. My partner and I spent the second half of 2006 travelling - visiting such countries as China, Russia, the Baltics, Greece, the UK, and Morocco. I maintained regular posts, and they remain a handy reference for travel writing. It was during 2007 that it developed into what it is today: a mix of travel, humour, and opinion.
